Allegations Emerge Against Georgia’s Honorary Consul in Sri Lanka Over Alleged Boxing-Linked Visa Scheme

Allegations Emerge Against Georgia’s Honorary Consul in Sri Lanka Over Alleged Boxing-Linked Visa Scheme

Allegations have emerged against Dian Gomes, the Honorary Consul of Georgia in Sri Lanka, claiming that he was involved in an alleged scheme to facilitate European visas under the guise of international boxing activities.

According to the allegations, Gomes is accused of using both his diplomatic position and his roles within the international boxing community to send athletes abroad through his privately affiliated boxing club, Westgate International Boxing Club, without the official approval of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka or the Ministry of Sports.

The latest incident cited in these allegations concerns the participation of boxer Yasindu Premarathna in the Les Ceintures Boxing Tournament 2026 held in France. It is alleged that the athlete had not competed in Sri Lanka’s major national-level boxing championships and had only participated in school-level competitions. The allegations further claim that his participation in the international tournament took place without the knowledge or authorization of the National Selection Committee, the Ministry of Sports, or the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka.

It is also alleged that the athlete’s coach for the tournament was his father, Nalin Premarathna, who is reported to be the President of the Mihindu Boxing Club.

Further allegations state that similar incidents occurred during Gomes’ tenure as President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka. Particular attention has been drawn to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in England, where four members of the Sri Lankan boxing team reportedly left the team during the event. According to the allegations, investigations into that incident have also been conducted.

In light of these allegations, there have been calls for an independent and transparent investigation. It has been suggested that the Ministry of Sports, the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, and the relevant authorities clarify the facts, determine whether any misconduct occurred, and take appropriate action where necessary.

The individuals and organizations mentioned above have not been found liable for any wrongdoing. The matters described in this article are allegations, and the parties concerned should be given an opportunity to respond.
