Sri Lanka continued their impressive resurgence at the 2026 Asian Netball Championship, securing a third consecutive victory with a commanding 78-33 win over the Maldives and keeping their hopes of challenging for the Asian crown firmly alive.
The Sri Lankans dominated from the opening whistle, combining accurate shooting, disciplined defence, quick ball movement and excellent teamwork to overwhelm the Maldives throughout the four quarters.
Sri Lanka established an early 19-9 lead in the opening quarter before producing their most dominant attacking display in the second. They scored 26 goals while conceding just 11, taking a comfortable 45-20 lead at halftime.
The third quarter saw Sri Lanka tighten their defensive grip even further. They restricted the Maldives to just three goals while adding 16 of their own, extending the advantage to 61-23.
Sri Lanka maintained their intensity in the final quarter, scoring another 17 goals to complete a comprehensive 78-33 victory.
Remarkable turnaround
The victory marks a significant turnaround for Sri Lanka after a difficult start to their championship campaign.
Sri Lanka began the tournament with a 67-51 defeat to Singapore, before battling to a 57-57 draw against hosts Hong Kong.
However, the Sri Lankan team responded strongly, defeating Malaysia 66-53 before producing a stunning 100-34 victory over India.
The latest win over the Maldives further underlines Sri Lanka’s resurgence and growing confidence as the championship progresses.
With three consecutive victories behind them, Sri Lanka will now look to maintain their momentum and continue their push for a place at the top of the Asian netball standings.
